GPFA-USA Co-Sponsors Pivotal Convening on Gender, Law, and Transformative Peace

On September 22, 2025, GPFA-USA proudly co-sponsored a landmark event with the Institute on Gender, Law, and Transformative Peace—an inspiring gathering that brought together advocates, scholars, philanthropists, and community leaders committed to building more peaceful, just, and gender-equitable societies. This collaboration, also shared with the Nobel Women’s Initiative, represented a meaningful step in GPFA-USA’s ongoing mission to amplify women’s leadership, strengthen peacebuilding ecosystems, and support transformative justice efforts both in the United States and across Africa.
GPFA-USA founder Nobel Laureate Leymah Gbowee together with other profound Peace Prize winners Maria Ressa and Tawakkol Karman intrigued the audience by sharing their first hand accounts of fighting for justice, freedom of speech and the power of organized advocacy.
Panelists and participants examined urgent issues—from the structural inequalities that fuel conflict, to the innovative grassroots peacebuilding strategies led by women and youth. The session emphasized that sustainable peace is only possible when legal systems protect human dignity, when gender justice is prioritized, and when communities most affected by conflict are empowered to lead solutions.
For GPFA-USA, co-sponsoring this event was more than a partnership—it was a reaffirmation of our deep commitment to the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) agenda and to global movements advancing feminist peace. As the U.S.-based partner of Gbowee Peace Foundation Africa, GPFA-USA continues to engage the African Diaspora, mobilize allies, and uplift the leadership of women and young people who are transforming their communities.
The dialogue on September 22 underscored the critical role diaspora organizations play in shaping policy conversations, bridging global justice efforts, and creating transnational networks of solidarity. The event also opened new pathways for collaboration, research, and advocacy—ensuring that gender justice and transformative peace remain central to national and international policy debates.
GPFA-USA looks forward to continued partnership with the Institute on Gender, Law, and Transformative Peace and to future opportunities to advance the shared vision of a world where women’s leadership is valued, peace is inclusive, and justice is accessible to all.
