Announcing GPFA-USA’s 2026–2030 Strategic Plan: Investing in the Next Generation of Peacebuilders

At Gbowee Peace Foundation Africa–USA (GPFA-USA), we believe that lasting peace is built by those closest to the challenges and bold enough to transform them. Today, we are proud to announce our 2026–2030 Strategic Plan, a roadmap that deepens our commitment to advancing peace, justice, and reconciliation by investing in women and youth leaders in Liberia and across Africa.
Founded in 2015 to support the vision of Leymah Gbowee, GPFA-USA has worked alongside our sister organization in Liberia to support the prosperity and development of girls and youth. Together, we have helped create pathways for young leaders to access education, mentorship, and opportunities to shape their communities.
Now, we are entering our next chapter.
Why This Moment Matters
Liberia is home to an incredibly dynamic and resilient population. Youth make up more than 70% of the country. On the African Continent as a whole, 60% of youth are under the age of 25 and women continue to lead movements for peace and justice. Yet many still face systemic barriers from limited economic opportunities to exclusion from decision-making spaces.
At the same time, in the US and on the Continent, we are witnessing something powerful: a new generation of leaders rising. They are organizers, artists, innovators, and advocates ready to build a more just and peaceful future.
Our strategic plan is designed to meet this moment.
Our Vision for 2030
By 2030, GPFA-USA will be a trusted hub for leadership development, diaspora engagement, and advocacy—connecting emerging leaders across the United States, Liberia, and the broader African continent.
We envision a future where women and youth are not just participants in change, but drivers of it.
Our Strategy: Three Pillars for Impact
1. Building the Leadership Pipeline (2026–2027)
We will identify, mentor, and support emerging women and youth leaders across the U.S., Liberia, and the diaspora. Through partnerships, exchanges, and storytelling, we will create pathways for leadership growth and cross-cultural connection.
2. Strengthening Diaspora Engagement (2028–2029)
Diaspora communities are a powerful force for change. We will serve as a trusted connector by bringing together generations, amplifying youth voices, and mobilizing support for peacebuilding and social justice across borders.
3. Advancing Advocacy & Influence (2029–2030)
We will elevate youth and women leaders into spaces where decisions are made, supporting advocacy efforts, shaping narratives, and building relationships with policymakers and global influencers.
How We Will Get There
To deliver on this vision, GPFA-USA will invest in strengthening our organization by expanding our team, growing our budget, and building a recognizable and impactful brand. We will also deepen partnerships with diaspora communities, academic institutions, philanthropic organizations, and policymakers who share our commitment to equity and peace.
An Invitation to Partner
This strategic plan is more than a roadmap-it is a call to action.
We cannot do this work alone. We invite our community of supporters, partners, and allies to join us in investing in the next generation of leaders. Together, we can create opportunities, shift systems, and build a more just and peaceful world.
Looking Ahead
The next four years represent a critical window of opportunity. With the right investments and partnerships, we can help shape a generation of leaders equipped to transform their communities and influence the future of Liberia and beyond.
